This Year’s Word…Discovery

In search of my mother’s garden, I found my own.
Alice Walker

Finally getting the nerves to do something that required me to step out my comfort zone, I signed on this great online gathering, called #Reverb10 challenging its participants to reflect on this past year and to manifest the next one.  Yesterday’s writing prompt was;

One word

Encapsulate the year 2010 in one word. Explain why you’re choosing that word. Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2011 for you? (Author: Gwen Bell)

…Discovery.  Self-discovery to be more precise, would be the word encapsulating 2010 for me.  10 months ago with the precious help of my Darling Daughter and in a effort to get closer to my family overseas, this blog got started.  My total lack of understanding of how it all worked served me in a way, and allowed me start writing without really knowing where I was heading.  The inside voices in my head wanting to find an audience  kept me focused on the task at hand…

So here I am today, having learned much about myself, yet feeling it’s only the beginning of a long journey where passion and curiosity mixed together are my compasses, where the inner-whisper I sometimes follow is my safest guide.  This new place I am discovering is not a far away land, no need to be searched by anyone for security purposes, it’s right here… within…

Which brings me to the second part of the question, the word I would like to capture 2011 for me would be

Believe… Believe it can be done, believe I am able to step up to my own expectations and to pursue my passions whether be it writing or photography.  Believe the words and images in my head can find within me the outlet needed to come out, believe my creativity flows freely and wildly…

believe I was ready…

…I did join a day late… better than not participating at all ?

Is it not? …

  1. margie, the photograph of my banner was taken this summer on a back alley in downtown Vancouver, BC. I love street art, I find some street back alleys are our modern museums, full of beautiful art to see.
